2009 was a strange year for me. On one hand, it was tough, stressful, and depressing. On the other hand, it was one of the best years of my life.
How can such a dichotomy exist? Well, for me, 2009 started in Kabul Afghanistan, while my wife and 2 awesome kids (Gabriel and Annica) were trying to find ways to celebrate even though their father was absent.

I’ve got a confession to make:
I’m human…I make mistakes, I have flaws…strengths and weaknesses (just don’t tell my wife).

It’s the day after Christmas, I’ve caught a bit of a cold, and I’m working hard to get Beyond Blogging ready for launch, so you’ll have to forgive me if I cut today’s post just a tad short. I can deal with a ton of work, I enjoy it in fact, but nothing sinks me like a stuffy nose and the sniffles.
Instead of adding a new post to the already large backlog of holiday content many of you are sorting through, I’d like to point you to a few guest posts that I had published this week. As I’ve said before, on this blog and several others…guest posting is one of the best things that you can do to recruit new eyeballs. Not only do you get a chance to reach a new audience, but you also get a quality backlink (the currency of the internet), a ton of social proof, and an opportunity to cover subjects in a way that’s different from your normal approach.

You know, it’s funny…looking back to my childhood and remembering how many people used to tell me to have reasonable expectations. When I was younger, people thought it was cute that I wanted to be an astronaut or a fighter pilot, but as I got older, people got tired of humoring me. Soon, it wasn’t cute anymore and somehow, my dreams started annoying people.

But, though some have pulled it off, I’m not so sure that leaving your job and putting it all on the line is a smart way to do business. Of course, I’m contractually obligated to keep my job, so maybe I’m not in the best position to make these kind of claims, but honestly I’m very happy with what having a job has done for my business.
