Beware the Gatekeepers

You know who they are. You’ve feared them ever since you became awake. These are the people that want you to suffer because it helps them to ease their own suffering. They want you to stay in line and do things “the right way.”

These people use society and religion against you. They have imprinted their rules on the fabric of society and as a result your family, friends, and loved ones probably nudge you to remain within this boundaries. This way, everyone is protected and everyone feels secure.

But what if you don’t want to feel secure? What if the very act of “falling in line” goes against the very fabric of your being? What if you feel destined to do great things?

Have you ever felt like this? I know that I have. I’ve been feeling like this as long as I can remember. They try to knock it out of you when  you are young and in school. If it doesn’t work then they will keep trying. “Get a good steady job” they say, as if there is no other way to live.

I don’t know about you, but if living is nothing but surviving, then what use is there in doing so? My nature tells me I must do things a certain way. I must change the game…I must break the rules. What is the point in fighting it?

I’ve seen adults that didn’t make it. I’ve seen it in their eyes. They walk around like specters, not really there. They are constantly caught in the past, feeling remorse for never living up to their God given potential.

There are two forces acting in this world. One of them drives  you from within, while the other drives you from the outside. You can only have one master and eventually you’ll have to make a choice. The question is, which one is easier to disappoint? Which one will haunt you the rest of your life and which one will give up and follow when you do what you must?

I’ll let you know that I’m not one to back down to a challenge, regardless of the implications. Don’t let the gatekeepers trick you into thinking that going after your heart is wrong. Don’t let them fool you into giving up on your dreams. You only get one damn shot at this, so why not go out in a blaze of glory?

The gatekeepers can keep people living in fear long enough for them to get used to not achieving their dreams and giving up "for society." There is a certain merit to what you said about waiting till children leave Valentina and I understand completely. My 2 kids and regular job take up so much time that I've got little room for myself. If I just wouldn't have wasted those 20's!

  • aaaahhhhhh the gatekeepers!

Too often we succumb in an effort to live right, be good citizens. We get swept away in the milieu of life without giving much thought to why it is that we are marching with the crowd while our heart skips a beat at every turn that is not of its own. And sometimes it is just that life has to be lived: a living to be earned, a family to be raised, responsibilities to be lived up to.

There comes a time however, when one can stop and drink in the stillness of the heart and get it beating again. Many take up their forgotten dreams when the children are grown and gone and reinvent a new life. The truly strong have done it all their life. Alas, I belong to the former.
  • Absolutely superb post. You don't need to fight it, you just need to stop caring what others think about how you should live, what job you should have, what car you should drive, clothes you should wear, what you should eat and the list goes on.

One thing to remember is that there are also healthy and unhealthy habits that are that way regardless of others opinion, and making the right choices for yourself and your own health is very important (if you value a life beyond mere survival).

Thank you for this thoroughly inspiring post.

Great Post! To fully understand your hearts desires and your minds drives enables you to fully realize your dreams and loves in this complex world. Gatekeepers will always appear, one after the other, but it is up to the individual to constantly push them down on their journey through life. I find that there is nothing more satisfying than defying the norm, and or gatekeeper, and creating my own destiny.
  • What a wonderful, wonderful post! Thank you! I'm tweeting this out to my followers - other people need to read this!!! :)
  • The only gate-keeper I personally fear is my own little voice that used to try and sabotage my dreams. When I took the time to understand what drove that, it disappeared.
