I admit that I have a fascination with robots and the next wave of technology that could either propel us into a grand adventure of discovery or eventually spell our doom. On the same token, I cannot believe that what I perceive to be the future is actually coming much quicker than I imagined.

According to a story on Wired.Com, David Hanson, the founder of Hanson Robotics, has engineered a boy robot he calls Zeno that can recognize faces and remember names. This robot is no simple robot however, as Hanson’s goal with Zeno is to create a new superintelligence capable of compassion and a conscience.

Hanson fears that “superintelligent agents are…able to spawn technology that could destroy us all.” Therefore, he believes Zeno to be a superhero for robots because he will be able to teach good values to other forms of robotic life.

Check out the video, it is fascinating:

That robot is so anthropomorphic! Or maybe surreal is a better description. Actually, it’s a cross between the two. I’m sold if it does laundry and cooks dinner.
