Developing an Online Empire – Part 1
Are You Ready?
Building an online empire takes a lot of work. It isn’t something that can be done overnight, at least not by us normal mortal folk, but it can be done. I’ve been working on this for a year now and although I’m much further now than I was when I started, I’ve still got a long way to go.
I liken this process to any other process that involves digesting and understanding massive amounts of information, as well as learning a variety of unique skill sets.
I’ve had to learn SEO, web design, PPC, graphic design, content authoring, publishing, coding, and many other skills that I never thought I’d need.
None of these are easy really, although some might be simpler than others. The problem is that this isn’t the end though. Once you learn the basics, you’ll need to learn JV deals, copywriting, landing page design, and more advanced business management skills such as how to manage outsourced employees, accounting, and business development.
So, although you can definitely learn enough to get started, the process never really ends. The learning curve is huge, which is why so many people give up before they even get started.
I must admit, I started this over 5 years ago and quit within months because I didn’t realize how difficult it was. 5 years later I’m kicking myself for not trying harder, but all things happen for a reason and now I am in much better shape than I ever thought I would be.
When I leave the Army in a little over a year, I’ll be able to walk away without needing a job…what a tremendous feeling! However…I’m still not done yet, there is much more to learn. The good thing is that once you get that little snowball rolling, you start to pick up steam until you become unstoppable. That’s the momentum I feel building right now, and that’s where I want you to be. Rolling downhill and able to blow any obstacle out of your way with ease.
So why are you telling me this?
Well, here’s the deal…you don’t have to learn everything the hard way. There are a ton of shortcuts that you can take that will not only shorten your learning curve, but can help you improve the skills that you already have. Over the next few days, I will be releasing the rest of this series, in which I’ll talk about copying great ideas, keeping swipe files, and learning from the masters.
Stay tuned for what I expect to be one of the most popular series of posts on this blog.
