My Blog Hit List

6 Blogs for Your RSS Reader

Most bloggers have a hit list of interesting blogs that they find interesting or inspiring, and I am no exception. A good blogger relies not only on his own skills at writing good content, but also the inspiration of reading good content from other bloggers. I also happen to believe that blogger communities are key to finding a way into a nich or becoming part of the conversation and having a good community is just as important as writing good content. I’ve developed a list of some of my favorite bloggers in the hopes that you will find their content and their communities as enjoyable as I do.

Chris Guillebeau

Chris’ blog is entitled “The Art of Non-Conformity” and it was one of the first blogs that I really got interested in. Although a majority of the blog is centered on his quest to visit each and every one of the countries of the world (he’s hit 100 so far!), he also has a very unique perspective on life and work. He wrote an E-Book that I highly recommend called “A Brief Guide to World Domination.”

Tim Ferriss

If you hadn’t heard of Tim Ferriss, I would be very surprised because this guy is taking the world by storm with his book The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich. His Lifestyle Blog never really sticks to a specific topic, but he always has something interesting to say. As a self-made millionaire in his 20′s, he’s singlehandedly brought about a new trend of lifestyle design and mini-retirements. Love him or hate him, his work speaks for itself.

Caroline Middlebrook

I started following Caroline’s blog in the early parts of this year while I was learning how to start a WordPress Blog. She wrote a great E-Book that was instrumental in my ability to use WordPress as well as I can now. She writes about her quest to make a living blogging and setting up websites and when I saw that she quit her job to do it, I was impressed. What I really like about Caroline is her honesty and transparency and I’ve learned a lot following her advice. Her E-Book alone made her several thousand dollars. Not too bad!

Freelance Switch

I found the Freelance Switch blog several months ago and regretted that I hadn’t found it sooner. The blog is a great resource for freelance design, implementation, and strategy. They also have a job board for those looking to find or hire for a job. If you are into podcasts, they’ve got a great library of freelancing podcasts that I highly recommend subscribing to.

Chris Brogan

Chris is one of those guys that not only is part of the scene, but helps to define the scene itself. He calls himself a social media strategist, but I’d call him a social media guru. His analysis is always spot on and he is never short on good content. I highly recommend his Personal Branding E-Book.

Gary Vaynerchuk

I just discovered this guy and was hooked the instant I watched his first video. Gary took an already profitable family business online to achieve even greater success and became one of the most popular wine blogs on the planet, called Wine Library TV. People love him for his unmeasurable amount of energy and intensity, but he’s also got a wondeful perspective on life. His wine blog is great, but I really recommend his personal blog because of his tips for living and being yourself. The guy is very intelligent, inspirational, and entertaining.

This isn’t the end…

I’ve got an even longer list of great blogs and journals to follow, but these six are some of my favorites. My plan is to offer a list like this once a month to give you something new to follow. If you like them, great…if not well maybe the next list will suit your tastes. In the meantime, I’m anxious to here what you think of the list. Do you follow any of these blogs or have any offerings of your own?

Always fun to be slotted next to neat folks like Tim and Gary. I haven’t met Caroline, but I hope to at some event or another. I don’t know the other Chris, but there’s a clause in tech conferences that we all have to be named Chris, so I’m sure we’ll meet up.

Thanks, Nathan. Keep making cool stuff happen.

Hey Chris, thanks for stopping in. Hopefully when I get back to the states I can get to one of these conferences to meet you in person, but in the meantime reading your blog is as good as it gets.

How do I type up a list and post it. It always goes back to 1 big paragraph, no list?

  • http://nathanhangen.com/blog Nathan Hangen

Are you referring to WordPress? If so, just use the bullet feature…you might have to click on the toolbox to access it. Otherwise, go to the html section and use <ul> </ul> as the code.
