Podcast: Why are You Doing This, and Becoming a Linchpin

Welcome to another edition of Digital Empires Radio. In today’s episode, I talk about the “why” side of business…as in, why the hell are you in business?

We also discuss becoming a Linchipin…not for your boss, but for your customers. Enjoy!

  • I fell into the trap that you described.
All I want to do is write stories and the business posts are sidetracking me from that.
I know how I can monetize what I do. I know my market. And my intention is to correct my current site mess and return to what I want to do.

Your other podcast about the 5 year plan helped me get my head around how I could achieve my goals. Previously I never really thought beyond the current month or two.
    So thanks Nathan..
  • Had to listen to this one twice I enjoyed it so much! I see many what I like to call "scatter brain bloggers" looking everywhere for a way to breakthrough and usually the answer is so very obvious.

Why and I doing this? This being my online businesses. I am doing it to fill a need, make a living, and to avoid "living in a van down by the river" (can't help but think of Chris Farley doing that skit on SNL!). I currently enjoy freedom to work from home because of my online ventures, and contrary to so many "copy cats" out there, I went with things I actually already had experience with and had built business relationships in. I actually researched for 6mos before selling my offline business to become a 100% online marketer, I researched competition, products, demand, and keywords long before I started my current products site.

Thanks again for the podcast, it helps me with my vision for the future.
  • I was featured in a local ezine for my photography. Heres a quote:

"Webb hopes to be a humanitarian, using his skills to help groups and people in need. And this, his humanitarian desire, is what captivates and will continue to captivate."

I want to challenge the mediocrity of the inbox, digital photography and the world. I don't want my photography to be a commodity - something that I can try and sell 5million prints because it can be done with a digital file. That's not the point of any of this. The point to my photography is to see the world, and see it for it's possibilities. I am going to challenge issues with sight and find ways to add value to the canadian institute for the blind. I want to improve the lives of these people by way of helping contribute to the CNIB. One day, people that couldn't see the world may be able to or be able to see it again.

I talk way more about all of this on a recent blog post - hope it's okay if I link to it. If not, feel free to edit.

  • Great answer, and that's the type of fire I love to see. I have no doubt you'll be making that happen. Thanks for sharing the post.
