Saturday Project Update – Finding the Way

Comments Off

I’ve been mulling over some content changes on this site and I wanted to hear what you think. As you might know, I host a Zen-Buddhism style blog called Live the Dharma and although I like to keep it as sort of a “sleeper,” I have found that the content rings true with many people. As a person very interested in lifestyle design, travel, and mysticism, I’m considering working a bit more with the topics of Zen and lifestyle design. The only problem is that this has been done many times, such as with Lifehacker, Zen Habits, and many other Zen blogs that pop up from time to time. As it stands, I’m not exactly sure how I want to approach these topics…I just know that I want to.

The way I see it – we all have a million different things that we are interested in. Finding balance is difficult…many of us give up our passion for the sake of being responsible. We face obstacles at work, at home, with friend, and with family. The practice of trying to follow our dreams, whatever pursuits they may be, can quickly become an exhausting task.

This is where Zen comes into play and why maintaining perspective and “keeping the hustle alive” is paramount to your happiness. We all have to work to find our own balance, at work…and at play. As we get better at it, we learn how to spend more time at play, which is where most of us are happiest. My goal with this blog has always been to share what I’ve learned on my journey so that I can help facilitate that experience for you. In the process, I want to not just tell you how to do it, but show you how to get over the mountain.

In essence, I feel as if I’ve slowly worked my way into a pit of quicksand here and I’m looking to shake things up a little bit. I want to share more than just concepts and ideas…I want to share experiences and insights. I’ve already shared some of the basic information that helped me get to where I am today, but I don’t feel as if I’ve shared enough. I want to delve a bit deeper into lifestyle design and being unafraid of going after your dreams. I want to talk about balancing work and play, not working too hard, and finding what truly matters most.

To sum it up, I’m going to be expanding the topics around here just a bit in order to serve my interests and hopefully, yours as well. I am going to open up a bit more, and I hope that you’ll do the same.

This is where I leave it up to you. I’d love to hear what you are interested in reading about and how you think I can improve this blog. If you don’t want to leave a comment, send an email to nathan at nathanhangen dot com and let me know what you think. Thanks for listening.

    Nathan,
Great post. It’s always a struggle between work and play. I recently started my own business after being part of a layoff at my previous job. To get some extra money, I took a contract job as well. So now, I work my days contracting and my nights taking care of my own clients. In a strange way though, I love both of them, and it’s tough to make a choice. So, instead, I sleep 3 hours a night and juggle it all. I know I’m flirting with burnout and not leaving enough “me” time. I’m finding you have to have the little things to keep you sane.

Look forward to seeing the new direction of your blog. Keep us posted on Twitter!
    Thanks!
    Jill

    Jill,

Glad I’m not the only one :)

I’m the type of guy that has too many interests to write about, but I do my best to cover them all without boring my readers to death. You are a brave woman to sleep only 3 hours…I thought 6 was weak! Make sure to take a day off from time to time, but you can’t argue with taking that momentum and running with it. You are an inspiration!
