Saturday Project Update – Guest Posts

guest postsIt’s the day after Christmas, I’ve caught a bit of a cold, and I’m working hard to get Beyond Blogging ready for launch, so you’ll have to forgive me if I cut today’s post just a tad short.

I can deal with a ton of work, I enjoy it in fact, but nothing sinks me like a stuffy nose and the sniffles.

Instead of adding a new post to the already large backlog of holiday content many of you are sorting through, I’d like to point you to a few guest posts that I had published this week.

As I’ve said before, on this blog and several others…guest posting is one of the best things that you can do to recruit new eyeballs. Not only do you get a chance to reach a new audience, but you also get a quality backlink (the currency of the internet), a ton of social proof, and an opportunity to cover subjects in a way that’s different from your normal approach.

Having had posts published on a variety of styles and types of blogs, I can attest to the fact that some are designed to bring you more traffic than others, but you can only know that after you try…so go out and make a list of blogs on which you’d like to make a guest appearance, and go for it.

1. The “It Factor” – How to Get It as a Blogger (Problogger.net)

This was a great Christmas present, courtesy of @problogger Darren Rowse. I was just in the middle of handing my kids a few presents when the RT’s started coming across my phone. Already, the post is receiving a lot of great feedback, as it serves as not only a bit of New Year’s motivation, but also as that glimmer of hope that we all need to know we’re doing it right.

The It Factor is something that all the A-Listers have, but we’re always having to chase. In that post, I discuss how you can get it and make it part of your business. Check it out.

2. How to Use Twitter for a Product Launch (Twitip)

This post was taken straight from my arsenal of Twitter tactics, and explains how Mike and I are using Twitter for the launch of Beyond Blogging. Although I mention only 3 ways in that post, there are a variety of others, so feel free to discuss them in the comments below.

I try to post to Twitip at least 2-3 times per month, but I don’t always meet that expectation. Still, there’s a great audience over there and Lara is an awesome person (and editor)…thanks Lara!

Project Update

Obviously, Mike and I are spending most of our time either with the family or on the Beyond Blogging Project, which is probably our biggest effort of 2009.

Although Twitter Rockstar was a moderate success (300+ customers to date), Beyond Blogging is looking to be 10x the size. Not only is the product great, but we’re also pulling out all the stops for our product launch.

If you’re new to launches like this, I recommend paying special attention to each and every detail so that you can learn some of the basics behind a successful launch sequence. Although marketing has a lot to do with it, I’ve always felt that product quality, quality pre-launch material, and solid relationships will trump marketing every time. Do you agree?

Sure, we have some contests and other fun stuff, but this one is more about the community than anything.

Aside from that, Facebook Rockstar is set to launch in a month or so, and I’ve got a few special projects being worked on behind the scenes, so stay tuned for more awesomeness in 2010. It’s going to be an awesome year!

  • I just got the eBook and so far, so good (having just read to Chapter 2), I cam in late so I missed the product launch steps but I'm hoping to learn how to turn blogging into a life's work that also creates a comfortable income.

    Onward!
  • Ken,

That's great, thanks for stopping by and saying hello. Let me know what you think about the book!
  • Utilizing social networking is certainly one of the things I will be doing more in the coming year. Checked out your post over @problogger and really enjoyed the read. Finding the "it" factor is one of those things I will be working on for the new blog idea I have rattling around in my head.

More on that later... Happy New Year and I look forward to checking out Beyond Blogging.
  • Thanks Jason, it's my goal to convince everyone that anything is possible. Let me know what you think about the book!
  • Thank you for your reminder to guest post. ;)

I'll be definitely trying to do that. :P
  • You should, it works wonders :)
  • I was just thinking about the observing how you do it part. I've started buying products just to see how people go about fulfilling the buzz they create. I will be buying Beyond Blogging for that reason and for the reason that it looks awesome.

Facebook Rockstar is just what I need. I've been thinking about why there aren't any guides to using Facebook productively. I'm completely dismissing it at the moment because I would just end up wasting my time.

Questions like.. should I create a fan page? How to get fans? How to interact? Should I join groups? Why? And so on are flying around in my head.
  • Yeah, there are a lot of ways to do it, you're seeing bits and pieces in this one. They depend a lot on the audience, the product, and the niche...but there's one thing in common with all of them - lot's of work!

I'm surprised there aren't any Facebook guides either...but that's what I thought when I created Twitter Rockstar...next thing you know they're all over the place!
