The Tworld is a Beautiful Place
At first, I saw Twitter as another annoying social tool that would suck all of my free time and keep me tied to yet another disconnected social network. I couldn’t figure out why anyone would want to follow me or why I’d be interested in following anyone else.
Fast forward a year and you are likely to find me on a prayer rug with a Twitter icon in front of me…illuminated by a single candle of devotion. OK, OK…I know that is a little over the top, but take a moment to think about what Twitter really is.
Where else can you be connected with thousands of people across the world via a real-time stream of consciousnesss? Where else can you meet people that you’ve never seen or probably would never see? Where else can you collect such a massive amount of innovative ideas and become part of the collective consciousness with such ease?
Seriously, Twitter reminds me of that scene in The Dark Knight where Morgan Freeman is given the task of monitoring hundreds of TV monitors fed by cell phone signals so that he can find the Joker. He’s got the entire city laid out in front of him…bit by bit…piece by piece.
Twitter is just like that, only better. The people on the screen want to communicate with you. The people on the screen want to get to know you. The people on the screen are some of the most humble and gracious people I’ve ever met.
I’ve learned more from Twitter than I have from any other social medium and as Twitter continues to grow, I’m sure the trend will continue. I don’t know where Twitter will take us, and I’m not sure if it will be the one that lasts, but I have a feeling that it will open our world in a way that nothing else ever has.
In the coming weeks you’ll see me talk about my upcoming Twitter Course, called “How to Become a Twitter Rockstar.” The course is a step-by-step guide to all things Twitter, whether you want to use it for business or pleasure. I’m really proud of the course and I can’t wait to release it to the masses. I’ve had nothing but good comments from the people that have reviewed it…including my toughest critic of all – my wife
