Weekend Update – Entrepreneur Style
If you’re new to the blog – my Saturday project update is something like a weekly “state of the blog address” where I give you the low down on my current projects and future plans. My goal in doing this is to be able to explain where my income comes from and show you a few ways that you can monetize your own blog or website.
The Biggest Launch
Unless you’ve lived in a cave, you’ve heard me mention Beyond Blogging at least once over the past several weeks. The Beyond Blogging launch, which is something that Mike and I planned for nearly half a year before you actually got to see it take place, was an amazing success and it’s not only improved my bottom line, but has also introduce me to new audiences and platforms.
There were some issues during the launch though, which were primarily driven by the clash of different business types, that made for some very interesting conversation…to say the least.
Although I didn’t anticipate these issues, I have become fascinated by them in a way that’s had me thinking about the different types of people that exist within our space and the type of products that are marketed to them. As a result, I’ll be speaking about this more than once during the next week or two…hoping to capture your opinion for the debate.
The Numbers
The numbers from the Beyond Blogging launch were amazing. We sold several hundred copies in the first 2 days, hit 5 figures in the first 24 hours, and are still selling dozens more per day.
Has the launch died down a bit? Sure, and I suppose it’s bittersweet, because although I have time to catch up with other parts of my life, there’s something in the rush of launching a product that is unique and cannot easily be captured in normal living. I’d also like to work on keeping the launch momentum continuous, at least through January, so keep your eye out for new strategies to be implemented for that.
Aside from keeping the buzz going and the Beyond Blogging book in the forefront of every blogger’s mind, we’ve started to plan for phase 2.
What Does the Future Hold for Beyond Blogging
The discussions are still young, but we know this much:
There will be a 2nd volume, and it’s possible there might be an annual edition to capture the “who’s who of blogging” each and every year.
We’d like to work on something actionable as a step 2 for the book, and we’d like to feature bloggers in a variety of niches, both before and after they hit A-List status. There are a lot of options, and we’re very excited about the potential of the Beyond Blogging Project.
Other Stuff
I think I’ve already mentioned that Facebook Rockstar will be launching within a month or so. This project was requested by Twitter Rockstar owners and has been fun to create because I’m able to capture my consulting techniques into multimedia format, and provide them to people in a way that they’ve asked to consume them. So in other words, I’m not just making something up…I’m creating based off of a consumer’s needs, which is how business should be done.
It’s better for both parties involved that way.
I still do the social media thing over at MakingitSocial.com, where I consult and offer specific social media advice. I’ll be posting for Copyblogger, Problogger, DavidRisley.com, and Social Media Examiner over the next few months, and I’ll be working on a few more guides to follow up on the social media ones…probably a guest posting mini-guide, a guide to building blogs, and a guide to niche blogging.
2010 is Awesome
This is going to be the year I make the transition from Army life to civilian life, so I’ll be working hard to replace an annual income within the next 3-6 months of effort. From there, I plan on taking Beyond Blogging to first 6, and then 7 figures.
I like creating things, and then building them up to their potential. My 3 words this year, to echo what Chris Brogan asked Friday, are create, develop, and expand…as in Create an Empire, Develop Empires, and Expand Empires.
I’m hoping we can create something together, be it an empire or a village. The key is just getting started and turning that excitement into something real and concrete. I think we can do it, and I’m looking forward to making it happen.
What Do You Have in Store?
Share with me, your plans for 2010, both in the comments, on Twitter, and on Facebook. Let’s talk about how we can change the game together.
