What Do I Do?

Getting to Know Me

I realized that I’ve been blogging for a while now without ever really talking too much about what I actually do. I call myself a webrepreneur, but how do I apply it?

A Job is a Job

I currently work for the US Army and am deployed to Afghanistan. I don’t want to go too much into that aspect of my life, but I think it is important to share that I am not yet a full-time webrepreneur. In fact, because of my job I really struggle to find the time to create businesses in my spare time.

However, as my strategies continue to get refined and as my tactics begin to pay off, I find that I need less time to accomplish making money on the side. If you’ve read My Master Plan, you’ll know that my goal is to move straight into becoming a full-time webrepreneur upon the end of my military contract…this gives me until late 2010 to get my act together.

In the meantime, I’ve been spending every extra hour I can (to my wife’s disdain) plotting, planning, and taking action on become a full-time entrepreneur. I like to try many things to see what sticks, what I have a taste for, and what is scalable. This journey has led me through some income with affiliate marketing, ppc marketing, and actual product marketing.

Aside from that even, I am working hard to develop a charity effort for causes I believe in and develop my personal life through religion and other interests, such as music and writing. Oh, did I also say I want to become a professional triathlete? Although it is nice to have many interests, the downside is that there is never enough time to develop all of them.

Eventually, I’d like to write a novel and release a recording of my own music, but in the meantime I have to make enough money to free up the time. I feel that I best serve this planet helping others and bringing out the good in folks…it is my goal that being a Webrepreneur will help me do that. I have a wonderful wife, Heather, and two young children, Gabriel and Annica, that I want to spend more time with living, laughing, and loving.

Creating Systems

Currently, I am refining my online presence to determine exactly how I need to approach branding myself in order to encompass all of my interests. Do I use my blog as a general platform to share my story and then link to my interests? Do I brand each interest individually? Do I even need to blog at all? The answers to these questions will develop over time, but sometimes it is hard feeling disoriented in your efforts. Sure, I’d like to have it all down to a science…but I don’t yet and I am ok with that.

As a result,  I am developing a system to create a process that is testable, duplicatable, and easy to use- which I hope to share with you eventually.  I have the fortune of loving numbers and analysis, so creating a documented system is something that I enjoy. I diligintly log what works and what doesn’t, creating roadmaps to success along the way. I don’t want to spend too much time doing affiliate or ppc marketing, but it just happens to be a step in the right direction. Eventually, I want to take part in defining the market rather than reacting to it. I am a firm believe that a business needs to have value to society and if it doesn’t, you should stop where you are and find something that does have value. Creating value is where the income meets the benefit to your consumer.

Where it all Leads

The bottom line is that although I focus heavily on making money, the real passion that drives this train is my desire to enjoy life to the fullest and help people along the way.  Chris Brogan is a wonderful example of someone doing this successfully and I admire him for it. Every day he talks about helping people rather than helping himself. I truly believe that if I am doing what I love, I will also be serving the planet by filling the role I am meant for. Passion for life is what drives me to make this work, and I hope you enjoy following my journey along the way.

I’d love to follow yours.
