I didn't realize that others like me/you existed, that's awesome.

I used to pirate music…and then I realized that I was being irresponsible because I was painting the music industry as the bad guys and in the process, forgetting that many of the artists are busting their ass and not making a thing from the label.

Now, I buy tons of music, especially if the artist is an up and comer. It makes me feel good to support and kind of “make up” for my past mistakes.

I've thought about taking on the “pay what you want” model, and this adds fuel to that fire.

My husband is a musician and performer (audiobody.com). When his albums are ripped off and given away for free on sharing sites it's hard not to be annoyed. It's annoying because someone else is controlling whether it is free or not. It reminds me too much of Atlas Shrugged – Reardon metal being taken from him.

So instead he decided to sell his music as pay what you want. That way everyone could buy a cd, even if they wanted to pay a penny. They normally sell for $10. Surprisingly, they average at least $5 per cd now, but sell 4 times as many cds.

I'm so impressed with those numbers. There are people who just want everything for free, but there are others who are willing to pay you for your hard work.
